Prof. dr. Jan Willers
Jan Willers is the “oldest” honorary member of the M.B.V. Mebiose, since 1987. He was a professor at the Laboratory of Microbiology (Eijkman-Winkler Institute) and did much for the study of Medical Biology. He was the first president of the Interfaculty Committee of Medical Biology and was there at the start of Mebiose. At his lab, he installed Mebiose’s first Praeses, Ellen Satter. Prof. Willers passed away on October 24, 2017.
Wim Coret
Wim Coret has been an honorary member since 1991. Until that year he worked with Bureau of Medical Biology at the faculty, where he did a lot for Mebiose. The reason for his departure was the dissolution of the Bureau due to the introduction of Common Biomedical Education. Nowadays he works at the National Service for the Preservation of Monuments in Zeist.
Dr. Coen Görts
Coen Görts, an honorary member since 1991, also worked at the Bureau of Medical Biology until its dissolution. During the early stages of studying Medical Biology, he did much there. When he left for the Faculty of Biology, he became an honorary member. Later in life he studied history. Dr. Görts passed away on October 23, 2020.
Dr. Math J.H. Geelen
Math Geelen was installed in 2001. He had been involved in the study of Medical Biology, now Biomedical Sciences, since the 1970s. He was both a lecturer, member of the ICMB and chairman of the propaedeutic exam committee. Furthermore, Math Geelen was an excellent teacher which both students and their parents will agree on. He was elected Teacher of the Year by the university in 2000-2001.
Prof. Dr. Willem Hendrik Gispen
Professor Gispen joined the honorary members in 1994. He has served as president of the ICMB and the DEC. Until 1999 he was dean of the Faculty of Medicine, after this he was director of the Rudolf Magnus Institute of Neuroscience. From April 2001 to October 2007, he was the Rector Magnificus of Utrecht University.
Prof. Dr. Dop Bär
Professor Bär is Mebiose’s second youngest honorary member, having been installed in 2009. Professor Bär has helped Mebiose many times during his years of involvement in the Biomedical Sciences program. Many boards could always turn to him if they needed urgent advice or help. Professor Bär served as program director of Biomedical Sciences until 2015.
Dr. Astrid Freriksen
Astrid Freriksen was installed as an honorary member in 2018. Besides still being active in the program BMW, she is also the first female honorary member. Astrid is program coordinator for the Bachelor of Biomedical Sciences, but for Mebiose she is more than a program coordinator. She is closely involved with students, critical in improving education and therefore a real addition as an honorary member of Mebiose.
Dr. Wim Dictus
At the 2022 BLV, Wim Dictus was installed as our most recent honorary member and he wears this title with pride. Wim has always had a passion for teaching and this is evidenced by receiving the lecturer’s award in 2003 by the urging of UBV. From 2004-2022, Wim Dictus served as program director of Biomedical Sciences. In these 17 years he has always had a listening ear for Mebiose and was always happy to contribute to Mebiose.
