'Watch, Meet, Be your Future' workshops
Watch, Meet & Be your future is the career-related information program of the Biomedical Sciences program in collaboration with Mebiose. Through this we hope to inform BMS students about career opportunities after completing the study program.
Within the WMB program, a workshop is organized four times a year to learn more about a particular position or type of job. In these workshops, people from certain fields come and talk about their careers, what their day looks like and explain what their work entails. During these workshops there is also a focus on interaction, as a student you can always ask all your questions and sometimes even discuss interesting dilemmas or cases.
Do you have your own ideas or would you like to see a specific topic such as sustainability, working for non-profit agencies or social impact? Then email your ideas and wishes to mebiose-vicefiscus@umcutrecht.nl
Careerday
Organized once every two years, the Career Day is a day where Bachelor students of Biomedical Sciences and Master students of the Graduate School of Life Sciences can listen to interesting speakers, workshops and lectures that are organized by companies and organizations within health and Life Sciences, and students can network during a networking drink with the companies and alumni present. Since 2022, the Career Day has been organized in collaboration with the Molecular Life Sciences study association, U.L.S.V. Amino. Each edition of the Career Day is attended by about 250 students and 20 companies. The next Career Day is scheduled for October 2024!
For more information, visit the Career Day’s official website.

KnaBa's
Starting this year, we’ll be organizing “Knabbels en Babbels” (Chicks and Chats). KnaBa’s (KnaBa’s) will take place eight times a year during lunch. At these KnaBa’s, master’s students from the represented master’s programs will talk about their programs, and afterward, there will be time for bachelor’s students to ask questions about the programs, all while enjoying free food. Each KnaBa’s will feature two master’s programs. Because of the eight different KnaBa’s, all sixteen master’s programs of the GSLS will be covered. The KnaBa’s are a good opportunity for bachelor’s students to explore master’s programs in an accessible way. The KnaBa’s were created because we regonized the need for an accessible way for students to explore master’s programs. By providing a short presentation during lunch, we hope to lower the barrier to starting the master’s orientation process. This will also allow first- and second- year students to begin their master’s orientation.
Meet the Masters
Mebiose, in collaboration with the Biomedical Sciences program and the Career Services of the Faculty of Medical Sciences, organizes an annual opportunity for the Bachelor students to orient themselves on their Master’s choice through short presentations given by current Master students. This will allow for small-scale questions, discussions and further in-depth exploration of Master’s options after the Bachelor of Biomedical Sciences.

BMS Academy
The BMS (BMW) Academy is a program that runs throughout the Bachelor of Biomedical Sciences. The BMS Academy will help students prepare for the future. The student’s skills will be looked at and talked about: academic as well as personal skills. Specifically, the BMW Academy involves repeated group meetings with the students’ tutor during the Bachelor’s degree and occasional assignments. This always focuses on a skill that is practiced and how the student can improve.
Lectures, workshops and company visits
Mebiose’s vice-Fiscus organizes many extra activities in addition to all the standard career activities. Throughout the year, lectures, workshops and company visits are organized for students who want to learn more about Life Science companies, improve their soft skills or do more networking.
Do you have questions about which workshops, lectures and company visits are scheduled? Or do you have an idea of your own for a fun activity? Then send an email to mebiose-vicefiscus@umcutrecht.nl

Life Science Career Event
Together with the Career Services of the Faculty of Medical Sciences and Bèta Science and the study associations the UBV, the U.L.S.V. Amino and Mebiose organize the Life Science Career Event every year. This event is organized for all master’s students in the Graduate School of Life Sciences. Here, master’s students can attend a panel discussion on whether or not to do a PhD, listen to presentations by GSLS-alumni and network with GSLS-alumni and companies at the closing networking drinks. In this way, current master’s students will connect with possible career options after graduation and be able to network with potential employers.

Life Cycling
The Life Cycling is an interactive networking activity for senior year Bachelor’s and Master’s students. This activity is organized by Mebiose together with Career Services. The students cycle in a small group along a number of interesting companies on the Utrecht Science Park and are given a tour of the company and information about its activities. There is also the opportunity to network with the company and its employees.

Trainings and workshops from the bachelor’s program
Job Application Workshop
Every year, the program organizes an application training for third and fourth year BMW students in the months of January-March. Simone Schut (coach BMW), Kirsten Boersma-Van Nierop (coach BMS) and Jaco de Fockert – Koefoed (study advisor BMW) provide the training. After attending the training you will be better prepared to apply for a master’s position, internship, study abroad position etc. The training consists of two evenings, the first about writing a letter and the second about conducting a job interview. Exactly when this workshop takes place, will be communicated through the newsletter.
Workshop ‘Personal Leadership: Making Choices’
Do you wonder how you make the ‘right choice’ and what you can do if it turns out not to be the right choice? During this training we will discuss with you how you approach your choice process, what is difficult and how you can deal with that (personal leadership). You will be offered a model that can help you with this and you will work with it, both individually and in groups. At the end of the workshop you will know what you need to make a well-considered (study) choice. The button below will take you to the website with more information, workshop dates and the registration form.
