Selection

Biomedical Sciences is a bachelor’s programme with a Numerus Fixus. This means that there are only 175 spots per year. To determine who gets these spots, a selection takes place. The selection consists of several steps and includes some important deadlines in terms of dates. The roadmap is briefly described in the paragraph below. It is currently being discussed whether the Numerus Fixus will continue to operate via selection or go back to a draw. Keep a close eye on the news for this. The information below may therefore not apply.  

1. Until January 15 at the latest you can register for the bachelor via Studielink. Please note that you need a DigiD for this and that the application for this also takes some time. Registrations will open on the 1st of October.  
2. In OSIRIS (you will receive an email with login information for this) you fill in a questionnaire, after which you will get access to the study material for the knowledge and insight exam. With this questionnaire you also upload your grade list declaration with VWO grades, which will partly contribute to the determination of your grade number.
3. From the 1st of December, the study material to prepare for the knowledge and insight test will be available on Blackboard, the online environment of Utrecht University. The studying can really start then!
4. Halfway through January a practice test will be available on Blackboard. 
5. Sometime in February the selection day will take place. Here you take the knowledge and insight exam and complete questions about your motivation during the exam as well.  
6. In April you will receive your rank number via Studielink. If your rank number is high enough, you will be offered a place immediately. You then have two weeks to accept it. If you do not, you will lose your place.  
   
   

The rank number in the selection will be determined based on the following factors:

• Transition grades from VWO 5 to VWO 6;
• The knowledge and insight exam (taken on the selection day in February);
• Motivation (written during the exam on the selection day);
• Profile test (this is taken at home).
  
  

To get access to the bachelor’s programme, you either have to have followed the Nature & Health profile with physics, or the Nature & Technology profile with biology. If you do not meet these requirements, you can take an additional exam at the Boswell Institute of the University of Utrecht (www.jbi.uu.nl). You must pass the exam before you can register as a student. You may also be admitted to the selection process with other degrees.
