From September 1st to 4th, the introduction week for the first-year students took place. It was a very successful week in which the new students got to know each other, the program, and Mebiose well. The week started on Monday with a carousel where the tutorial groups got to know the Heijmans building and received a tour of the Science Park from their mentor. In the evening, the students discovered Utrecht’s nightlife with a private party at BASIS, which was a great success.
On Tuesday, the first lectures started early in the morning, followed in the afternoon by a crazy88 through the city. That evening, the schedule included a members’ dinner and the official Mebiose member installation at the cozy restaurant Dotslash. Afterwards, the first-years had the chance to meet all of Mebiose’s committees through fun games such as flunkyball, beer pong, pictionary, and more.
On Wednesday, the Introduction Committee put their best foot forward and, despite the bad weather, still managed to organize a fun afternoon. The day ended on a high note at Mebiose’s regular pub, Het Pandje. Since there were many toasted sandwiches left over from the party, everyone could stop by the Mebiose room on Thursday and Friday for a toastie. This turned out to be much more popular than expected—during the lunch break the room was packed, and we were making toasties non-stop. A great success!
To recover from all the physical activity, we organized a pub quiz on Thursday evening, where the first-years’ knowledge was put to the test. Some of the questions were quite tricky, but that just made everyone a little bit wiser.
We wrapped up the week with our Weekly Closing Drinks, this time with hamburgers for the first-years. Together, we looked back on a very successful week!
